MetaCoins.com
The Story Behind the Site
Why MetaCoins.com belongs in PremiumBrands, and the decisions behind the collection.
I started PremiumBrands because I care about the name a founder chooses before the business has much else to show. My question when considering a domain is simple: would I build on this? The names I have not built on yet are the ones I am open to selling. MetaCoins.com passes that test for me because it gives a founder a concrete subject, digital value, and room to decide what useful work belongs under it.
The morning a name changed the introduction
In 2007, I acquired the press release distribution business running on i-Newswire.com. I secured iNewswire.com in 2013, then spent more than a year negotiating for Newswire.com. Before making the move, I consulted SEO professionals. In February 2015, the business began using Newswire.com. It was a decision about the identity I wanted the business to carry into every conversation that followed.
The morning of the switch, a prospect told one of our sales agents, “Oh yeah, Newswire.com. I've heard of you guys.” That was impossible. We had just made the change. I remember that exchange because the work was already there, but the introduction had changed. The team could now say the name directly and move into the conversation about what the business did.
The business was acquired in 2022 for about $44 million, by Issuer Direct, as reported in the acquisition announcement. That was the price of the business and the team's work, not the domain. My experience with the name sits inside a much larger story of building a company. The people doing the daily work built that company.
Choosing before the whole plan exists
I bought PremiumBrands.com before I had a plan for it. Premium names matter to me, and I knew waiting would probably cost me the chance to use this one. By now it could be with an end user building a business on it, and a name in that position is most likely no longer for sale. I wanted to make that decision while it was still mine to make.
That is also why I question the fix-it-later mindset. Upgrading once the business has made it sounds tidy until the name is on email addresses, packaging, signage and the materials people use to find you. A later change touches all of them. Choosing a name early lets a founder spend that same effort building a consistent identity around the business they mean to create.
Why this name belongs in the collection
With MetaCoins, I can see a founder taking a complicated subject and giving it a clear working home. The first product might be small: a set of explainers, a model for a game designer, or a carefully documented collection. What interests me is the founder being able to introduce that work under a name with a defined theme, then keep using it as the work gets better.
I would want the founder to make the product's purpose unmistakable. Digital value contains several different activities, and the strongest first release would choose one. The name gives the team room to grow; its early work gives that room a shape. A sharp editorial promise or a well-scoped tool is a useful starting point for the identity MetaCoins could carry.
AI is making it easier for a small team to build software, draft a prototype and test a product. A recognizable name remains one of the few things another team cannot simply copy. My interest in domains comes from that practical difference. I want the name to help a founder begin with the identity they are proud to use, while the business earns its place through the work.
OnlineBusiness.com is the supporting strategy and development studio behind my wider business-building work. PremiumBrands is where the domain conversation belongs. A great name won't save a bad business. It gives a founder a head start and a clear identity to carry into the work ahead.
If MetaCoins.com fits what you want to build, tell me about it. If your best name is outside the collection, say which one; PremiumBrands can help you pursue it. I am interested in the business you intend to put behind the name. A premium .com is a trust shortcut.
